Στις 24Μαΐου γιορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο η Ευρωπαϊκή Ημέρα του Δικτύου Natura 2000. Το Δίκτυο Natura 2000 δημιουργήθηκε την ημέρα αυτή, πριν 32 χρόνια, με μία πρωτοποριακή νομοθετική κίνηση της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής, και αποτελεί σήμερα το μεγαλύτερο δίκτυο προστατευόμενων περιοχών στον κόσμο.
